A presente exposição de Fernando Aguiar é constituída por obras inéditas realizadas nos últimos anos, algumas com o recurso a antigas gravuras tipográficas que constituíram o ponto de partida para criações plásticas em papel vegetal e sobre folhas de polipropileno.
O metro articulado de carpinteiro que, de início, foi pensado para criar um objeto de homenagem a Cildo Meireles, acabou por resultar num elemento gráfico reproduzido nessas pinturas e sobre um conjunto de folhas desdobráveis de etiquetas autocolantes de grandes dimensões.
Uma das séries agora apresentada tem por base a fotografia de uma performance realizada pelo autor no Centro de Arte Moderna da Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, em 1985. A série consiste na reprodução dessa imagem (ou a ausência dela) em tela, pintando-a sobre um fundo vermelho, com cores que causassem a estranheza possível. Recorrendo à mesma imagem, foram ainda realizados registos em papel com pintura a aguarela.
Outras pinturas inscrevem breves frases na espessura lateral da grade, que começam no lado esquerdo e terminam no lado oposto da tela, acrescentando texto ao cromatismo do espaço frontal.
A tridimensionalidade nesta exposição é conferida pelo objeto ´Antologia´, uma colagem com capas de livros encadernadas a dourado e penduradas num cabide de madeira também dourado, e por duas esculturas em aço inoxidável.
O conjunto de obras evidencia a expressão linguística e formal de Fernando Aguiar, e de um percurso de experimentalismo estético no traçar de conceitos e de representações nas abordagens pictóricas, pelas quais tem pautado o seu trajeto criativo.
Fernando Aguiar nasceu em Lisboa, em 1956.
Realizou numerosas exposições individuais em Portugal, Espanha, Itália, Hungria, Cuba e no Brasil, e participou em muitas dezenas de exposições coletivas em diversos países.
Publicou livros de poesia, contos, performance e antologias de poesia visual, e participou em 120 Festivais Internacionais de performance e de poesia sonora, nomeadamente no Centre Georges Pompidou, Casa de Serralves, Tokyo Metropolitan Art Space, Mexic-Arte Museum, Musée D’Art Contemporain (Marselha), Museo Vostell Malpartida, Círculo de Bellas Artes e Matadero (Madrid), Hong Kong Arts Center e no IVAM – Institut Valencià d’Art Modern.
Está representado em diversas coleções institucionais e particulares, entre elas no Museu de Serralves, Millenium BCP, Fondazione Bonotto, National Center of Contemporary Art (Kaliningrad), Museum Für Modern Kunst (Weddel), Fondazione Berardelli, Luciano Benetton Collection e na Fundação Cupertino de Miranda.

The present exhibition by Fernando Aguiar consists of unpublished works made in recent years, some using antique typographic prints that constituted the starting point for plastic creations on tracing paper and polypropylene sheets.
The articulated meter of carpenter that, at first, was thought to create an object of homage to Cildo Meireles, ultimately resulted in a graphic element reproduced in these paintings and on a set of folding sheets of large stickers.
One of the series now presented is based on the photograph of a performance performed by the author at the Center for Modern Art of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in 1985. The series consists of the reproduction of this image (or the absence of it) on canvas, painting it on a red background, with colors that cause the possible strangeness. Using the same image, records were also made on paper with watercolor painting.
Other paintings inscribe brief phrases on the lateral thickness of the grid, which begin on the left side and end on the opposite side of the canvas, adding text to the chromatism of the front space.
The three-dimensionality in this exhibition is given by the object ́Anthology ́, a collage of books covers bound in gold and hung on a wooden hanger also gold, and by two stainless steel sculptures.
The set of works evidences the linguistic and formal expression of Fernando Aguiar, and a path of aesthetic experimentalism in the tracing of concepts and representations in the pictorial approaches, by which he has guided his creative path.
Fernando Aguiar was born in Lisbon in 1956.
He has held numerous individual exhibitions in Portugal, Spain, Italy, Hungary, Cuba and Brazil, and has participated in dozens of group exhibitions in several countries.
He published poetry books, short stories, performance and anthologies of visual poetry, and participated in 120 International Festivals of performance and sound poetry, notably at the Centre Georges Pompidou, Casa de Serralves, Tokyo Metropolitan Art Space, Mexic-Arte Museum, Musée D’Art Contemporain (Marseille), Museo Vostell Malpartida, Círculo de Bellas Artes e Matadero (Madrid), Hong Kong Arts Center and at the IVAM – Institut Valencià d’Art Modern.
