Gonçalo Jardim
Born in Lisbon, 1964.

He attended the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon (1987-1992). He has been teaching at the University of Évora, since 2002.
He exhibits regularly in numerous collective and individual exhibitions in Portugal and abroad.

"Although they are displayed aerially, Gonçalo Jardim's sculptures are very much down to earth. In fact, many pieces may be regarded as deriving directly from contact with objects from the natural world. Witness the myriad spiders that feature in his work, the skulls of birds, their beaks and eyes, and the surprise of their enigmatic masks. Or the collections of wings, keels, and other bones of boat-birds that seem to lead us on a fanciful journey through the intricacies of a natural history museum, where all the exhibits (naturally) interconnect. Or the utensils that his latest series evoke. Even the angels are there, collages that portray the rural, domestic and spiritual environment of the artist, and are displayed for the first time, setting the re metallica betwixt earth and sky."

José Alberto Ferreira, in De re metallica
